Winter FIELD TRIP/ Retreat:

For many, winter is a season marked by health hurdles, not health gains. Weight gain, fatigue, immune stress, and seasonal depression are all symptoms of the redox failure experienced by most when the light cycle changes.

The reality is this is NOT the “normal” state. Nature did not intend for winter to be a season of dysfunction. In fact, the exact opposite is true: winter cold (with its decreased UV light) was designed to be when massive repair and regeneration happens; enhanced mitochondrial efficiency occurs; and the body runs more on internal light production. Winter should be an opportunity for health to be improved.

The problem we face in the modern world is not the winter season; it’s actually the subtraction of winter and the complete violation of the rules established by nature.

Instead of embracing the cold, most people bury themselves from it, living at room temperature chronically.

Instead of respecting the additional darkness and harvesting more hours of regenerative sleep, most people bathe themselves in artificial light, staying up far into the hours of darkness.

Instead of eating seasonally and within the proper circadian time-frame, most eat out-of-season, out-of-region foods, and never consider timing of eating at all. This out-of-sync routine drives significant timing errors internally which collapses the normal thermodynamics that run health. Instead, disease states increase instead of health increasing.

In every way possible, modern winter living has become a drain to the redox field. But, this is not what nature intended.

If health is your goal, you must reclaim your connection to the winter season and plug back into nature’s decentralized network—this means harvesting the light, respecting the darkness, and embracing the cold.

We’ll teach you how.

Intimate, small-group setting:

Location:

The event will be hosted at Avena Integrative Medical Center.

Number of spots available:

Limited to 9 people.

We are trying to keep this experience intimate and personal, providing ample opportunity for one-on-one interaction. As such, we are limiting the number of participants.

noun

More than a retreat. Field Trips are transformational experiences designed to help you learn, grow and evolve.

This isn’t just a page in the story of you. It’s a new chapter altogether.

LEARN THrough Experience

Here is an outline of how the Winter Field Trip will be structured.

The Winter Field Trip is a curated day of learning, immersion and community.

We will start the program with a structured lesson led by Dr. Alison. She will provide you with foundational knowledge about running your health in the winter through the lens of biophysics, mitochondrial function and circadian biology.

Next up: experience. As a group, we will flow between sauna and cold exposure. This portion of the event will be completely guided by Dr. Alison and the Fieldlab team. Our number one priority is to ensure that you experience these practices in a way that is safe, comfortable and makes sense for where you are in your journey. We will also use this time for questions and conversations that deepen your understanding of the core concepts and takeaways. The ultimate goal is that you have the knowledge, tools and confidence to apply what you learn to your daily routine.

We will finish the program by learning about and sharing one of nature’s most powerful foods—fresh, local oysters. This portion of the program will take place at a local restaurant—85 Main—to support comfortability with consuming oysters (if you would like—you will not be forced to eat them). The cost of the oysters is included in the cost of the program. Following the event, the Fieldlab team will remain at 85 Main for a shared meal; participants are welcome to stay for this post-event meal if they would like.

Investment/COST

What do you get:

  • Prior to the program, you will receive materials, resources and support to help you prepare for the experience.

  • 5 hours with Dr. Alison and her team in a small, intimate setting. All participants will have ample opportunity to ask questions and receive feedback directly.

  • Fully guided experience to immerse you in the practice of sauna and cold thermogenesis.

  • Up to 6 oysters at 85 Main.

  • A private online community space where you can ask questions and interact with other participants after the program; this space will exist indefinitely.

  • Learning materials to accompany the lesson from Dr. Alison along with a recording of the lesson for you to refer back to.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What if I hate the cold?

Worry not—if you are extremely cold averse, we will walk you through the experience in a way that supports natural cold exposure that is comfortable.

Do I have to cold plunge?

No—cold plunging will be an option for those who feel ready to experience that practice, but it is not required. In fact, nothing is required! There are many ways to experience cold that don’t involve cold water immersion—we will guide you through all of those options.

Do I have to eat oysters?

No, you do not have to eat oysters if you are not comfortable doing so. However, you may want to after you learn how powerful they are!
